Author Ren R. Royal's Book Review of "Katrina: Growing Wings" "Katrina: Growing Wings" by Tawnya Bulger is a heart-warming children's book with a wonderful message to children of all ages, even the young at heart. This book parallels with a Bible verse transmitting not only a cute, sweet story, but also a biblical lesson - that in the struggling circumstances of life we may want to wriggle and squirm with impatience and give up; however, God can use us during these times to make us stronger, that we may too, grow wings. This book is a beautiful illustration of God's love and hope - a great book for parents, sunday school, teachers, and many more.

This is a great and inspiring story that can be appreciated and enjoyed by children of all ages. I had the pleasure of hearing the author's "story behind the story" in person and can definitely say that she's as inspiring as her story.

I'm reviewing this book during the time of the Covid 19 crisis. When reading about Katrina, I thought about all of us being told to stay away from each other (social distancing). We are blanketed in our homes waiting- waiting for life outside of this dark nightmare. We are waiting for our cocoons to break open. When this is all over, we will experience life in a whole new way from a whole new perspective- just like Katrina did.
This book could be read in many different settings and have meaning. I just though that my perspective now is probably different than it would have been 2 months ago. We all have cocoon times in life- times when we feel we are in darkness and struggling to understand why. I highly recommend this book. Children will love it and I certainly identify with it.
